Webcam & Mic Test.
One Start click, one prompt — see yourself live and watch the mic meter move at the same time. Nothing leaves your browser.
Press Start check and allow access — video and audio stay on this device.
CheckMyMic's webcam and mic test checks your camera and microphone together in one pass: press Start check, allow the single combined permission prompt, and you get a live camera preview with resolution and FPS readouts sitting right next to a live mic level meter and an instant verdict. No download, no signup, and nothing leaves your device.
How the webcam and mic test works
Most sites ask for your camera and microphone separately, which means two prompts and
two waits. We request both in a single getUserMedia call, so your browser
bundles them into one permission dialog. Allow it once and the video track drives the
live preview while the audio track feeds the same Web Audio analysis the standalone mic
test uses — measuring peak level many times a second and turning it into a plain
verdict for both devices at once.
Video and audio never leave your browser. Both streams stay in memory on your device, and the camera and microphone are released the instant you press Stop, switch tabs or leave the page.
When to run this check
Use it a few minutes before a Zoom, Teams or Google Meet call to confirm your setup works end to end, or right after plugging in a new headset and webcam to make sure both halves are talking to your computer. If you need a deeper look at just one device, the full microphone test adds noise and clipping detail, and the full webcam test adds camera switching and a snapshot — or run the interview-ready check to add speakers too.
Webcam & mic test FAQ
How do I test my webcam and microphone together?
Press Start check. Your browser shows one permission prompt for both camera and microphone — choose Allow once and you'll see a live camera preview next to a moving mic level meter, with a verdict that covers both.
Why does the browser only ask permission once?
We request camera and microphone access in a single getUserMedia call,
so Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari bundle it into one combined prompt instead of
asking twice.
Is this private?
Yes. The video preview and the mic analysis both run locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, recorded remotely or stored — both devices are released the moment you press Stop or leave the page.
Why is my mic bar not moving?
Check you picked the right microphone in the dropdown, that it isn't muted at the OS level, and that no other app (Zoom, Teams, Discord) is already holding it. Speak normally — the bar reacts to your voice level in real time.
Can I use this to test for Zoom or Teams?
Yes — it's a great way to confirm your camera and mic both work with your current headset and browser before you join a call. If either one fails here, it will fail in Zoom or Teams too.
